I’d like to have more than two concurrent remote desktop sessions. I have my users login to the headnode and submit their job from there, and my current install allows only two users to be connected at once. I’m on a college campus, so licensing wouldn’t be an issue, is there a way to add more CAL’s to make this possible?<\/span><\/p>\n

You can configure the number of simultaneous remote connections that are allowed for a connection. Restricting the number of simultaneous remote connections can improve performance of the computer because fewer sessions are demanding system resources.<\/p>\n

NOTE: If the RD\u00a0Session Host role service is not installed on the computer, a connection can only allow a maximum of two simultaneous remote connections to the computer.\u00a0<\/strong>(if you need information about installing the RD Session Host Role – then check here\u00a0http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc742813.aspx<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Use the following procedure to configure the number of simultaneous remote connections allowed for a connection.<\/p>\n

Membership in the local\u00a0Administrators<\/strong>\u00a0group, or equivalent, on the RD\u00a0Session Host server that you plan to configure, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.\u00a0Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at\u00a0http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=83477<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

To configure the number of simultaneous remote connections allowed for a connection<\/strong><\/p>\n

    On the RD\u00a0Session Host server, open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. To open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, click\u00a0Start<\/strong>, point to\u00a0Administrative Tools<\/strong>, point to\u00a0Remote Desktop Services<\/strong>, and then click\u00a0Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Under\u00a0Connections<\/strong>, right-click the name of the connection, and then click\u00a0Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    In the\u00a0Properties<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box for the connection, on the\u00a0Network Adapter<\/strong>\u00a0tab, click\u00a0Maximum connections<\/strong>, enter the number of simultaneous remote connections that you want to allow for the connection, and then clickOK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    If the\u00a0Maximum connections<\/strong>\u00a0option is selected and dimmed, the\u00a0Limit number of connections<\/strong>\u00a0Group Policy setting has been enabled and has been applied to the RD\u00a0Session Host server.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You can also set the maximum number of simultaneous connections allowed for an RD\u00a0Session Host server by applying the\u00a0Limit number of connections<\/strong>\u00a0Group Policy setting. This Group Policy setting is located in\u00a0Computer Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Remote Desktop Services\\Remote Desktop Session Host\\Connections<\/strong>\u00a0and can be configured by using either the Local Group Policy Editor or the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). Note that the Group Policy setting will take precedence over the setting configured in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.<\/p>\n
